The Family Tree Tea Room and Nursery - Cawood.

Last visited: August 30th, 2023

We have noticed a recent trend (or perhaps not so recent), of combining a cafe with another type of retail outlet, in this instance with a Nursery (for the sake of clarity, the plant kind not the children kind). This cafe, rather hidden away in Cawood, is really a little delight. It serves decent coffee in those trendy kind of “halfway cups”, between a mug and a cup, with a proper milk jug. They have a substantial array and choice of cakes and do a rather good (in fact exceptional), cheese scone served with homemade pickle. On the occasion of our second visit there were just the two of us, one scone referred to above and a very good lemon cake, proper tangy and substantial. The outside space is huge, with loads of tables outside and a whole range of tables under the cover of a polytunnel. We’ve only visited in the warmer months (I know so that must of been a short three week period in June), so are not sure what it would be like in the winter. There are plenty of places to lean your bike, a good outside toilet and plenty of room for large groups of cyclists. Prices are good (at least in the context of recent price rises), with cake pegged at about £3.00 and a cheese or fruit scone at £4.00. Order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. Service is not super quick, but is friendly and efficient. This is definitely going on our “must visit regularly list”.
