This is the first review for Ponfrets (Pomfrets are scaly fish according to Google), but not our first visit. There are a couple of cafes in this part of traffic-free Wetherby, (To be clear Wetherby is not traffic free, just this part), which makes for pleasant sitting outside. We had toasted tea bread (they don’t do teacakes), which were very good, served with little pats of foiled wrapped butter, which thankfully spread with ease. Coffee was good, all served in proper cups. There is no dedicated bike storage, this is definitely not a cyclists cafe, so you need to be careful where you lean your bike, as some of the shop owners opposite take exception. But the cafe is great, service is very friendly and efficient and the prices are good. As we were leaving we noticed that their fruit scones looked great, so we’ll give them a go and report back. 17.05.23 - update. Can now report that the scones are very good. We have used this cafe and the one next door lots of times and both are good. Is now a regular stop.
May 2024 - This remains one of our go to Wednesday ride cafes. On the last visit we all had a variety of scones (they do lots of unusual variations, blackcurrant and Apple being one) and they are really excellent. Service as always is hugely efficient and at £7 for coffee and a scone, with cream and jam, we think that’s a bargain.
