Knaresborough - Riverside Cafe

Last visited: August 7th, 2024

Knaresborough is one of our go-to cafe stops on a Wednesday ride: the riverside view and pleasant easy cycle back to York are big plus points. However, the excellent Marigold, our usual cafe stop was full, so being fellows who relish a change, we were drawn to the Riverside Cafe just up the road. Turns out there is a reason this one had plenty of tables. Firstly the good: bikes can be left leant against the railings in full view, there is plenty of outside space, service was quick, the staff cheerful and friendly and the coffee came in large mugs and was ok. What was not so good were the cakes, namely the fruit scones. Clearly supermarket bought, (they had that slightly shining glaze reminiscent of mass produced scones), definitely not fresh and frankly less than disappointing. Tasteless, little fruit, and on the small size, not qualities that hungry cyclists are craving. And they could’ve just gotten away with it if the offering were cheap, but they weren’t. All in all very disappointing and not somewhere for a second visit.
