Doylys Tea Room, Bolton Percy (update spring 2024)

Another firm favourite of the Wednesday cycling group, not least because there is only some 10 miles or so to go before the end of the ride. This café has a lovely courtyard with loads of good seating ideally suited to cyclists. It has well positioned cycle racks (the type you jam your from wheel into so might not suit carbon frame £3000 bikes with big wide wheels), but they are secure in as much as you can see them from where you sit. Inside seating is good and plentiful if the weather is not good and they do have a covered outside area. Coffee and teacake offering is very good, once again served in proper post-COVID china, with cute little milk jugs (for those who value such things). They have a good selection of cakes advertised on the chalk board, although once you throw on an Americano it can all come up a little expensive. One of our group tried the cheese scones (yes plural) and said they were amongst the best he had tasted. Several cyclists have brought their partners back for lunch and were not disappointed. In the summer months it can get very busy in the outside court yard space, although we have always been able to get a table. 25th May 2022.

Visited this cafe once again and all of the above remains true. Three of us had Cheese Scones and one had a Teacake, but with coffee it came to over £33. So whilst we could not fault the service, the coffee or the food it don’t come cheap. May 2024.

There is a theme emerging here. We stopped on a regular Weds ride (just the 2 of us) and had Apple Pie and Coffee, which came to over £18, which in anyone’s book is expensive (and the pie portion was small). Here at Yorkshires Finest we appreciate that COVID and prices generally have gone up, but coffee and cake at over £9 a piece is too much.
