Countryside cafe - worth a look

Last visited: May 18th, 2024

We are often seeking out new cafes to add interest to our rides and to bring some variety. So when we saw a new cafe was opening up just outside of Crayke, close to Easingwold, we decided a visit was a must. Thus, on one of our regular routes we dropped into the Bakehouse Yorkshire for coffee and cakes. In fact, it turned out to be scones and bacon butties and the general consensus was that very good they were. The cafe is as expected, on the plusher side, with a large courtyard, great for the summer, with plenty of “lean against the wall” bike facilities. (As the cafe is set well of the road,I’m guessing that sitting inside in winter with bikes outside would still mean they are secure). Service was good if a little slow, and you would not describe the prices as bargain basement, but a large coffee with a bacon buttie at £8 is not too bad. We were not able to do our Teacake test, as no one ordered one, but they do indeed sell a Teacake. The inside of the cafe is big with lots of seating so on a colder day I’m guessing you’d easily get a seat. But the main test of the cafe is would we go back and the short answer is yes. It’s not going to replace our regular stops in Easingwold, but if we are coming in from the Bransby road I’m sure we’ll drop in again.
